Well, this CD was released in 1999, however it has become my favorite CD I've purchased in 2002. This is the kind of CD that you have to listen to the whole way through. The musicians are masters of their instruments, with the great time changes and bright, well-recorded sound. The guitarist is very gifted, sounding a little like Scofield one moment (slightly distorted, great chord changes, chorus effects in use) and then Pat Martino the next (rapid picking, a more traditional sound). The vibes sound like keys, and since midi vibes are used on some tracks, I guess you could say that they almost are keyboards. The bassist swaps his acoustic used for most of the CD for bass guitar on the numbers where it sounds just right. And no wimpy drums here....a big sound, and played very well. Sounds like a Billy Cobham sized kit, but I'm just guessing. All around great Jazz Fusion, Naxos Jazz does it again. I say support this budget label so they can keep giving us great music, from artists around the world. If you've never bought a Naxos Jazz CD, get this one first.
