Oh I am enthralled by this book. Changing Worlds has all the ingredients I want in my MM sci-fi. Fantastic world building, amazing plot, appealing gay protagonists and of course a lovely human/alien romance which tie them convincingly.Being an Asian I was pleasantly surprised when Jason was first introduced. He is a Korean. As I progressed through the plot, I have to marvel at the writer's choice. How fitting! Jason fits so well into the plot with his inherent personalities reflecting an ancient culture which values coolness of mind, restraint, inner strength and control. I enjoy the way the writer weaves Korean heritage into a time, eons in the future. It is heartening to know all is not lost, that traditions could somehow be preserved.Jason is the perfect hero for the story. A matured man who has experienced so much in his life including a past military life (ah here are some surprises as a result), an intelligent reserved man of deep inner strength. The type of courageous hero who convincingly over come all odds to win over an alien world because he is driven by his unwavering love for an alien being and his own belief. The story is told from Jason's viewpoint, and it is a wonderful reading experience to explore this fascinating alien world with him and to "feel" his love for the alien, Ferran. Ferran may play second fiddle in the story but he is as interesting and likable in his alien self. When Ferran shows his strength towards the last part of the story I am just sorry the story could not be longer to show this alien's potential.The secondary characters of both aliens and humans are as much the strength of the story: the formidable alien Matriarch, the silent Penelope, one old funny human doctor, Ferran's playful twin cousins, the cute Perelan "pups". Last but not least I love the idea of a matriarchal society in this alien world where the females reign and roles as we know them are reversed. I like Opening Worlds. I love every minute of Changing Worlds. And yes I want more on Jason, Ferran and all the fascinating secondary characters please. Bravo Cari Z!
