Now, I am not your normal romance reader, but I happened to meet Dutch one afternoon at a Scottsdale AZ ice rink and we got to swapping tales about writing books, he romances and me mysteries. That night, I downloaded CHANGING TIDES from Kindle. The story of Jono, her globetrotting life, her personal misery with abusive boyfriend and hanger-on Troy, and her relationship with mentor/manager Maxwell all pulled me through with interest. When and how she “meets” Mike is best left to Jones’ storytelling, for it is unique. In one way, this is a very sweeping tale, whisking the reader across continents, glimpsing the inner workings of the super rich, uber celebrity, and glamour of the top flight life of an international supermodel. In another way, the book is a very local tale, of quiet, small, romantic locales and scenes of everyday life, and surfing lessons! In a third way, the story reveals the ups and downs of a slowly building romance that leaves the reader puzzling over just how these two people from such different lives could find happiness together? And, last, the reader is treated to the underbelly of paparazzi hounding, the sensational celebrity press, and the damage that scoundrels like Troy can do for spite and money. All of these themes are spun together by author Jones, who admits he just loves to tell stories. This he does well. --Richard J.
